Nathan helps junior golfers
Junior golfers tied at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club.
Selwyn Nathan supported and sponsored a junior golf tournament, the Glecier Junior Series, which was held at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club last Sunday.
Nathan is described by many as one of the most powerful men in golf.
“I’ve been around the game for so long that I feel I have a responsibility to it. My success in business comes from the people I met in golf and who opened doors for me and mentored me,” said Nathan.
Nathan has moved through the ranks of the game, from being a playing professional to tournament promoter, and now the Executive Director of the Sunshine Tour. He also sits on the board of the South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB).
He was the host of the Sunday’s tournament in the Glacier Junior Series.
He is also part of South Africa’s leading professional golfers, golf bodies, officials and benefactors in supporting the premier junior series in the country.
“I started in 1970 and was assistant to Brian Henning at the first Sunshine Tour event, the Cape Classic. I’m still in the game. Why? Because you have good people around you. That is why I always ask that our top players respect where they come from and continue to give a portion of what they get out back to the Tour. They are part and parcel of what our future is. You need to respect your heritage,” he said.
The line-up for Sunday’s tournament included low handicap golfers competing in the A Division for the chance to make it through to the national final of the Glacier Junior Series in October.
