Hi5diski launches informal soccer tournament
KENSINGTON – A soccer tournament is held in Rhodes Park for those young sportsmen who need to be noticed.

Hi5diski launched an informal soccer tournament on 8 October at Rhodes Park in Kensington.
The tournament saw six teams including City Killers, ZYC, Santos FC, Sikelela United, Birmingham and Malvern Youngsters participate.
Hi5Diski is a non-profit organisation established by John Sherriffs and Alison Roberts which encourages the youth to achieve their goals through sport. “With this tournament, we want to inspire the youth to have something positive in their lives. Some can change their lives with their talent. They are the future and we must instil hope and look after them because the future is in their hands,” said Sherriffs.
Roberts said she was pleased to see the number of teams that participated in the tournament.
“This is our first informal tournament and expectations were too much. We want to give the youth motivation to not give up on their talent. It is our first tournament and we are not sure what is going to happen after, but we are planning on doing it on a regular [basis],” said Roberts.
She said the objective of Hi5Diski is to promote soccer and a healthy, active lifestyle, create a league which will give recognition to its players and produce well-balanced young adults through soccer, learning and educational interventions.
She said they want to keep the youth off the streets and away from negative influences such as crime and drugs, and a platform such as this tournament is a starting point.
“The tournament was a success. The coaches are happy with the initiative and hope it will continue,” said Roberts.
Festival Sithole, the coach for Sikela United soccer team said, “I’m happy with what Hi5Diski has done. Because, as coaches, we cannot afford to take out teams in competitions. We have players who are very dedicated and who are always at practice and never miss a day. They need this to ensure them that their talent is noticed.”
The day’s winners were Sikelela Limited in third place, FC Santos in second place and the tournament champions were Birmingham FC who walked away with gold medals and a trophy.
