Training camp gives first taste of new football academy

Football coach Zeca Marques partnered with sports training and education specialists Balderstone Sports Institute to launch BSI Football, which will be based at Jeppe Quondam Sports Club.

Balderstone Sports Institute (BSI) held a training camp for u-13 up to u-17 age groups on November 2 to 4 to preview the up-and-coming football academy in Bedfordview.

The the training camp was for age groups u-13 to u-17.

“BSI Football will offer the opportunity for high school learners to join a full-time academy similar to the youth academies of Europe’s leading clubs such as Barcelona, Manchester City, Chelsea and FC Port,” said Michael Balderstone, managing director of BSI.

Balderstone said learners will attend BSI sports school in the morning for their education component, and receive football-specific training every weekday afternoon.

He said the holistic training will consist of technical, tactical, mental, fitness, nutritional, media and life skills.

BSI Football will launch in January 2019.

“The goal is to improve the skills and football intelligence, covering physical and psychological aspects through a balanced conditioning programme that leaves the student fully prepared for the modern game,” said Marques.

Marques is highly qualified with a UEFA Pro Licence, the highest available worldwide qualification and has extensive experience of coaching at professional and youth level, including winning the MTN 8 Cup with Moroka Swallows.

He is now turning his attention to developing talented young footballers to their full potential.

Balderstone further said through BSI Football’s global network, future pathways open to students, including European clubs, local clubs, US College, SA University or a career within the football industry.

BSI Football will also be offering after-school training for younger age groups, as well as holiday/weekend camps.

The full-time academy will commence from January 2019 and enrollment is now open.
