Dowerglen runner to go 67 hours for those in need

“I am not bound to any specific organisation and will run for anybody or any group that need assistance.”

Dowerglen runner Nuno Morais is set to take to the track in honour of Nelson Mandela and to help those in need.

On Mandela Day on July 18, Nuno will go the distance when he sets off for a 67-hour run at Edenvale High School.

Nuno said the initiative, being held in partnership with Edenvale High School, will offer a variety of options for those interested in participating.

Recently, the NEWS reported that Nuno started running for those in need when he held a 48-hour donation drive for Khanyisa Trust.

The Winter Warm-up Drive, held on May 10 and 12, saw Nuno cover a distance of 255km along Linksfield Road.

After the May donation drive, Nuno started running to raise funds for a wheelchair for an Edenvale High School teacher.

Nuno, who aims to complete the 67 hours, said he will continue to raise funds to assist the Edenvale High School teacher.

Dowerglen runner Nuno Morais is set to take to the track and run 67 hours, starting on Mandela Day. He has invited the community to join him and run for any cause they feel strongly about.

“Now that we have the wheelchair, I will continue to run to raise enough funds for a wheelchair hoist.”

Although Nuno will run for 67 hours to raise funds, he invited community members to join the initiative and support charities of their choice.

“Participants can run and raise funds for the wheelchair hoist or a charity of their choosing.

“Alternatively, people can bring donations for their selected charity to the school which will be distributed accordingly.”

Nuno said a R67 donation fee will be charged for those interested in participating in a 6.7km walk/run or a 67-minute walk/run.

Financial donations to any charity can be made into the school’s account, which will be forwarded to the relevant charity.

Nuno urged community members to include the name of the charity as a reference.

Once Nuno completes his Mandela Day initiative, he hopes to run from Johannesburg to Maputo (Mozambique) with fellow long-distance runner Hazel Moller.

Nuno said, if necessary, the Jozi to Mozi run will be used to raise funds for the wheelchair hoist or for another charity in need.

“I am not bound to any specific organisation and will run for anybody or any group that need assistance.”

Anyone interested in joining Nuno on July 18 can visit the school at any time on the day.
