Vosloo twins deliver on the ringball court
"We enjoy doing something together and that is an added bonus for us."
13-year-old Matthew and Jason Vosloo from Edenvale are making a name for themselves in the Ringball court.
Playing a sport that is not well known, the twins say they love playing the sport and hope to achieve more in the sport.
“The sport is for both girls and boys and it is so much fun. It is very active. We enjoy doing something together and that is an added bonus for us,” said the Vosloo twins, who are members of the U/13 Boy’s Provincial Team of Ekurhuleni North.
The Vosloo twins started playing ringball in 2014.
“The sport is versatile. Our coach has been supportive and encourages us to work harder and practice more,” said the Vosloo twins.
Ringball is a traditional South African family sport that has been played since 1907.
It is not well known outside of South Africa.
It is similar to netball in which the court is divided into thirds and in each of the three sections are three goal scorers, three center players and three defenders.
“We find inspiration in Protea players and other players from other sporting codes who have done well in their respective sport careers, who have also dedicated their time to achieving their goals,” said the twins.
2015 has been a good year for the twins as they were both selected for the SA representative sides.
The twins wish to play ringball professionally and hopefully represent South Africa internationally.
“Our mother and coach inspire us to dream big and to aim high. With such a support system, it is easy to have the driving force to perform your best,” said the twins.
The twins recently participated in the Ringball National Championships, which were held in Margate in October.
Both received bronze medals in the competition.
