Man dies after altercation in holding cells

The police are investigating a case of murder after a man died while in police custody at the Daveyton SAPS on August 1.

There was an alleged altercation between the deceased and another cellmate.

According to a reliable source, the deceased had been arrested for shoplifting and the suspect for attempted murder.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza confirmed the incident, saying a case of murder was investigated against the suspect.

“The cause of the death will be established once a post-mortem is done,” said Kweza.
