Business voices were heard
The voice of business was heard in the Benoni Council Chambers on August 28.

Benoni Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCCI) president Muhammd Essop said he was very pleased with the response to the meeting.
He said various concerns raised by business people concerning the metro were addressed by Benoni Customer Care Centre manager Hellen Naidoo, who was present at the meeting.
Ebrahim Motara, from the metro’s oversight committee (SHRAC whip) and Nezi Sathekge from Ekurhuleni’s communications and brand management department, also attended the meeting and addressed some of the concerns faced by businesses.
Concerns raised include the ongoing taxi problem in Voortrekker Street, leaking sewer and water pipes and the lack of lighting in some streets.
“As a result of the high number of business people present at the meeting, we now want to have another strategic meeting, where we want members of the SAPS and EMPD present, to discuss concerns of business people and how we can help each other,” said Essop.
The focus will be on how to best prevent business attacks and robberies, especially at night, and the enforcement of by-laws.
On the evening, business people who have upgraded their businesses were given recognition awards for enhancing and creating work in Benoni.
Those recognised were:
- Cassey’s Ford Benoni
- Mr Mag Man
- East Rand Cleaners
- Meat Empire
- Champ Tyres
- Steering Auto
- The Trading Post
- Golf Ceramics
Essop said the BCCI is aware of other businesses which have upgraded and will be honoured during the next meeting.
