Take care of your finances

The Victorian Secret in Western Extension hosted a business breakfast for women on August 18.

Hosted by Grace van Zyl, financial strategist and owner of Aspire Wealth Management, women were educated on how to take care of their finances at different stages in their lives.

Van Zyl provided guests with a financial toolkit they could refer to when it comes to their finances.

She highlighted factors such as longevity, the death of a spouse, divorce, retirement savings, mindsets and influencers.

“Everyone has a money personality. This is the personality you get after your first experience with money,” said Van Zyl.

“This will influence how you handle money.”

Van Zyl gave the women five tips to implement:

• Save every day. If you have R100, try to save R20 of that amount

• Educate yourself on financial matters (a loan, medical aid or funeral cover)

• Study your numbers regularly (bank statements, credit card, amongst others)

• Develop an interest in financial matters. Speak to your husband about his finances

• Have the difficult money conversations (death, how will the children be taken care of once you’re dead).

Apart from being educated financially, the women were also given a talk by image consultant, Mirella Pearson who touched on the importance of image and how dressing a certain way can influence how people perceive you.
