Aerotropolis Chamber seeks entrepreneurs

The CEO of the ACCI, Derek Fox, added that their motto is: "Let's do business".

The Aerotropolis Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) held its first networking breakfast on Thursday, last week.

Formerly known as the Greater Boksburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the ACCI now serves the entire Ekurhuleni region and has already attracted members from various cities within its borders.

President Beric Tempest said the name change, which formally took place on March 27, heralds a new dawn for the chamber.

“Ekurhuleni is centred around the biggest airport in the southern hemisphere, OR Tambo International, and offers us all the opportunity to benefit from the millions of visitors it receives,” Tempest said.

“Everything is linked to tourism and instead of watching the tourists leave Ekurhuleni for tourist attractions and hotels further north, we want to link them to businesses, attractions and experiences right here in Ekurhuleni.”

He said the ACCI’s vision is to provide a positive platform for networking where constructive criticism and suggestions can help all members to grow their businesses and take advantage of opportunities.

The CEO of the ACCI, Derek Fox, added that their motto is: “Let’s do business”.

“This means leaving politics, race, gender and other issues at the door. Let’s get on with doing business!” Fox said.

Tempest and Fox both come from tourism and hospitality backgrounds and aim to use this experience to make Ekurhuleni the place people want to meet, do business and explore.

“We have fantastic tourism and hospitality facilities in Ekurhuleni and being situated a stone’s throw from a major international airport, should be opening doors for local businesses.

“We need to work towards capturing the market and enticing people into our cities, not watching them get into a taxi and head to Sandton,” said Fox.

The ACCI is affiliated to the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry and there are several benefits for members.

“The chamber, in fact, has local, African and international reach,” Fox said.

“We invite businesses in Ekurhuleni to join us in helping the metro realise a true tourism destination, job creation and a thriving aerotropolis.”

Paul Rotherham, of Caxton Radio Benoni, was afforded the opportunity to enlighten guests at the networking breakfast, its vision and the opportunities it presents for local businesses.

He also reiterated that Caxton Radio Benoni, in fact, has a global reach.

“There are already many former Benonians listening to the station via live streaming on the Benoni City Times website, where they now live overseas, and we’ve received wonderful feedback,” he said.

“This radio project is an exciting platform for local businesses to connect to their communities.”
