Guard items against criminals

The Crystal Park SAPS is urging people to guard their personal belongings, to prevent them from being stolen.

‘‘The public, in general, are very negligent when it comes to personal safety,’’ said Crystal Park SAPS media liaison officer Tryna Maritz.

‘‘They are intent on leaving their cellphones, laptops, handbags and wallets in vehicles when going to sleep at night.

‘‘They also park their vehicles outside when a lock-up garage or lockable gates are available.’’

Plasma TV sets are still being targeted in the two suburbs.

Maritz said criminals spot the TVs through open curtains and when people discard the TV boxes on their pavements – alerting them to the house contents.

She added that people must report all crime and suspicious persons to the police.

Three people were arrested in June, for possession of suspected stolen property, and one person for an attempted house break-in.
