ATM guard nabbed for cloning cards
Etwatwa police have arrested a 32-year-old man for possession of a bank card cloning device.
The 32-year-old is working as a security guard at a local ATM in Etwatwa.
He was arrested on the afternoon of July 14, still clad in company uniform.
Police spokesman Const Timothy Masilela said the guard’s arrest came after a few people complained about his behaviour when assisting clients to draw money.
Upon investigation, police found a device believed to be used to clone bank cards in his possession.
He was arrested and detained at the Etwatwa SAPS.
Masilela said more arrests are expected to be made soon, as they believe the man was not working alone.
“We appeal to ATM-users to never lose sight of their card when using ATM machines, and to report any suspicious-looking people around the machines,” said Masilela.
The man is due to appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court soon.
