Const/s Sipho Mthombeni and Thulani Simandla were busy with their normal daily patrols in the CBD, at about 07.30am, when they noticed a suspicious-looking person on Voortrekker Street, and ordered him to stop.
“The man refused and started running away,” said police spokesperson, Lieut Nomsa Sekele.
Officers gave chase and managed to catch the suspect in Kemston Street.
“Upon searching him they found a firearm without a serial number and four live rounds,” said Sekele.
The 26-year-old has been detained by the Benoni SAPS and charged with being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
He is due to appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court, soon.
