Help shut down illegal liqour outlets

The Daveyton police seek help in identifying illegal shebeens, taverns, pubs and other distributors of liquor.

Police spokesman Capt Alfred Nakana said a lot of these outlets operate with fake licences, and with permits, if they have no licences at all.

“In the past three months we have shout down 143 such outlets and we need information to close down even more,” said Nakana.

It doesn’t matter if the place sells one or two beers or sorghum beer, it has been proven that a lot of crime emanates from such places, in addition to the premises being a nuisance to their neighbours.

“We are conducting daily operations to eradicate illegal liquor outlets that are in contravention of the Liquor Act,” said Nakana.

“It is mostly tuck shops, petrol stations and home owners who contravene this law.”

Nakana added that information provided will be investigated and whistle blowers’ identities will be kept confidential.
