They were appointed to the Benoni Police Station in January and have made a massive contribution in the fight against crime, under the guidance of WO Jaco Myburgh.
They started doing crime prevention duties on June 13.
“During this training phase the members are exposed to different scenes and tactical operations,” said Myburgh, adding that they have adopted a zero tolerance towards crime.
“Their purpose during this phase is to fight crime and to make Benoni safe,” he explained.
The students have searched a total of 17 premises and the same number of vehicles; they have also, thus far, seized R260 worth of dagga, 522 litres of liquor, valued at R5 810, and have made 27 arrests.
Myburgh said they have attended various crime scenes, including house robberies, attempted murders and hijackings.
The students have managed to seize four dangerous weapons, 200 counterfeit DVDs, stolen property valued at R123 000 and issued fines totalling R7 500.
