Don’t let SAPS turn you away

Crystal Park SAPS station commander Lieut Col Belinda Motaung said no one should be turned away from her station when reporting a crime that did not occur in the station’s precinct.

‘‘If it happens that the incident occurred in an area that is not served by the police station in whose area you reside, it can still be reported to your nearest police station, and you will be provided with a temporary case number,’’ said Crystal Park SAPS media liaison officer Tryna Maritz.

‘‘The docket will then be transferred to the correct police station, and a case number will be sent to the complainant.’’

Maritz said SAPS are obliged to serve and protect citizens and cannot dismiss a complaint or refer it to another station.

Motaung said no complainant will be sent away from her station but, if this does happen, she can be contacted and she will sort out the matter immediately.

The station commander can be contacted at the station on 011 969 4880, or after hours on 082 822 8315.
