New life for building
A Western Extension building, erected in 1911, has received a new lease on life.
The building, which is situated on the corner of Woburn Avenue and Russell Street, came close to being demolished in 2010.
It has been restored over the past 18 months, with several additions being made to the existing structure, after the building was bought by Les Godwin and his two partners, Christian Roberg and Wynard du Plessis, in 2011.
The building, which will be utilised as office suites, now contrasts the old and the new, with modern architecture contrasting the architecture of the old building.
Godwin said the restored building is a big upliftment to the area and the people in the area are happy with the final product.
The building was unveiled to contractors and the owners of the building’s friends and family at a roof wetting on Friday, August 2.
