Former Wordsworth boy takes second place

Former Wordsworth High School pupil Mpho Ntsudisang (20), from Etwatwa, was awarded second place in the essay contest at the Student Leadership Summit, held in Sandton on August 2 and 3.

Charted Accountant South Africa stream students at South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) accredited universities are invited to participate in an essay competition annually.

The best leadership essays are selected through a thorough assessment process and these students are invited to attend the Student Leadership Summit.

Ntsudisang is currently studying towards attaining his BCom Accounting Sciences qualification at the University of Pretoria.

He is a third year student and the recipient of the Thuthuka Bursary Fund.

“I would like to be a professional that others admire and look up as a role model,” he said.

“I get my inspiration from my mother; she is always there to set me straight and remind me of where I am headed and what I can become.”

According to Ntsudisang, apart from teaching him maths, his maths teacher KT Pillay, taught him all about adopting and maintaining strong principles, staying true to his beliefs, leading by example and that being good is rarely good enough.

“I am proudly South African because I exhibit belief, determination and grit,” Ntsudisang said.

“These are universal characteristics, but for me they are South African, specifically because of where this country comes from, and how prosperous our rainbow nation has become, despite what the world’s pessimists may have thought.

“Regardless of what the outlook is, what is currently happening, or what has been forecast for our country – I believe in South Africa and I believe that my generation, similarly to how the previous one led us to post-apartheid prosperity, can lead the country into becoming an even stronger force, both economically and by way of education.”
