Buckle up
The consequences of not securing children in vehicles can lead to avoidable loss of life, explained ER24 JHB East spokesperson, Glen Orritt.
‘‘ER24 recently attended the scene of a collision where two unrestrained children sustained serious injuries after they were believed to have been ejected from the vehicle as it overturned,’’ said Orritt.
‘‘One child was airlifted from scene and, unfortunately, died shortly after arrival at hospital.
‘‘It begs the question: how does one operate a vehicle knowing that their child is not restrained, even more so where they take the initiative to buckle up themselves?’’
Despite it being illegal to not buckle up, Orritt feels a lot has to do with people’s mindset that they will never become a statistic.
‘‘It is time to take care of our children, because they are our tomorrow,’’ he added.
