Rainbow Foundation celebrates Women’s Day

As South Africa celebrated Women’s Day nationally, the Daveyton-based Rainbow SA Foundation hosted an event on August 9, in celebration of women who play magnificent roles in their homes and communities in general.

Women came in numbers to support the initiative and candlelight prayer was the highlight of the day, as women came together under one roof to pray for key socio-economic factors that affect their community’s well-being, such as the high rate of crime, senseless killings of women and children, drug abuse, teenage pregnancies, HIV/Aids and the high unemployment rate.

Guest speaker and SABC’s Relate show presenter Angie Diale urged women to unite and support each other, saying that jealousy of other women should be a thing of the past and that they should start looking out for one another.

Founder of the organisation Felicity Makwedini and Diale share a common goal of seeing women becoming independent and financially emancipated.

Their goal is to form a platform that women can use to motivate and inspire one another.

Makwendini told women to make a difference in their communities, saying the little that they contribute goes a long way.
