Truck recovered with R400 000 cargo

A truck carrying R400 000 worth of animal feed supplements was hijacked in Bredell and later recovered in the Benoni Agricultural Holdings, on Thursday, last week.

The recovery came after a member of the Crystal Park CPF saw what seemed to be a truck hijacking taking place in Bredell.

The member followed the truck — which later dropped off two of its occupants on the side of the road — and called for back-up.

‘‘Within minutes the back-up arrived (the metro’s K-9 unit, the SAPS Flying Squad and members of the community from Crystal Park and Benoni) and they started to search for the suspects, who fled, said Crystal Park SAPS media liaison officer Tryna Maritz.

‘‘One of the suspects also tried to steal a bicycle, but failed to do so,’’ she added.

The abandoned truck was later recovered on the corner of Birch and Gum roads, following information from one of the men who were arrested.

A case of truck hijacking has been opened.
