Water pressure frustrates residents

Bathing and doing laundry has allegedly become “impossible” in Boat Lake Village, a Rynfield housing complex, as a result of weak water pressure.

‘‘We, in that area, have no or very little water pressure during the day,’’ said Boat Lake Village resident, Ernest Edwards.

‘‘On Saturday it is impossible to do laundry or to bath as there is no water.

‘‘It has been ongoing for months.’’

Boat Lake Village resident Sue Lamb said the complex has been plagued by water pressure problems for the past two years.

She said the problem has become far worse in the past two months and out of hand in the past few weeks.

‘‘We do not have enough pressure for the geyser to release water from around 6.30am to around 7pm,’’ said Lamb.

‘‘Washing machines will not work properly and, of course, a bath or shower is impossible unless we have them before 6.30am or after 7pm – and even then the water flow is stop/start.’’

Another resident, Bernice Bailey, described the situation as ‘‘absolutely ridiculous’’, with it being impossible to run a bath for weeks.

Clr Refiloe Ntsekhe acknowledged the poor water pressure in Boat Lake Village and said Country View and Fairleads, in general, are experiencing the same problem.

She said she raised the issue with Ekurhuleni in 2011, with the metro assuring her they would investigate the problem.

Ntsekhe said she has reported the problem “time and time again” and it has become a problem she cannot solve, as council is doing nothing about it.

There is an ongoing Ekurhuleni water project in Vlei Road, near the Country View housing enclosure, but it is not known whether this is geared towards solving the water pressure problems.

At the time of going to print, Ekurhuleni had not responded to questions regarding the water project and weak water pressure, which were emailed to them on August 21.
