The two men who shot dead an Alphen Park resident during a December 2011 house robbery, were sentenced to life imprisonment.

Sam Mhlanga (23) and Bongani Ubisi (25) were sentenced in the Delmas High Court on Friday, August 23.

In 2011, the two jumped into a property and found the deceased and his girlfriend playing a darts game outside the house.

“They produced a firearm and forced them into the house,” said police spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele.

Once in the house, the two tied them up and ransacking the house.

“The deceased managed to free himself and went to fetch his gun and a shootout ensued,” said Sekele.

He shot Mhlanga in the lower body, but Ubisi then shot him dead.

Mhlanga was arrested and taken to hospital under police guard while Ubisi ran away.

W/O Peter Mbonani investigated the case and managed to arrest Ubisi.

The two men were sentenced to life in prison, 15 years for robbery, four years for the possession of illegal unlicensed firearms and two for unlawful ammunition.

The sentences will run concurrently with the life sentence.

Sekele congratulated Mbonani on the sentence.
