One dead, five injured in accident
One person died and five others were injured in a head-on collision, involving two vehicles, in Petit, on Monday evening.
Three of the injured were between the ages of eight and 11 years old.
The accident occurred on the corner of Pretoria Road and Geldenhuys Road, at around 8.30pm.
‘‘Paramedics and rescue personnel who arrived on the scene found a sedan and a bakkie with severe damage,’’ said ER24 communications manager Werner Vermaak.
‘‘Debris and personal belongings were scattered across the scene.
‘‘On further investigation they found that the driver of the sedan was still trapped behind the steering wheel of the vehicle and the local fire department had to use the Jaws of Life to free him from the wreckage.’’
The man died shortly after being freed from the vehicle.
The cause of the accident is being investigated.
