Plenty of tasty grub at Grid and Grill

Whether you choose to break away for a quick meal with a couple of friends, watch a sports game, or have a leisurely meal with the family, Grid and Grill Pub and Restaurant is ideal.

The upside is that you will not have to default on your car repayments to enjoy everything there is to offer.

Although I have had a few cold ones at Grid and Grill before, I have never replenished my belly there.

My recent meal at the restaurant, accompanied by my better half, was enjoyable.

The menu’s variety and the fact that it caters for vegetarians, more so than most restaurants do, is a definite drawcard.

Half of the starters were vegetarian-friendly and there were also kiddies’ meals and seafood to choose from, amongst others.

As a starter, I ordered crumbed white button mushrooms, which were deep-fried and served with tartar sauce.

My partner ordered black mushrooms, grilled and topped with creamy spinach, melted mozzarella and cheddar (she opted out of the bacon bits).

We waited for our starters for about five minutes and enjoyed the soothing music which was playing.

We noticed a secure play area for children, a free WiFi zone, and earthy coloured décor.

Starters were served and my mushrooms were evenly cooked and not drowned in batter.

My partner said she would not have thought of combining creamed spinach and mushrooms.

The starter portions were sufficient, leaving enough space for the main course.

My main course consisted of a 300g rump steak, encrusted in mustard seed, pan-fried and served with creamy whole grain mustard sauce.

My chips were ample, but I found the steak covered in a few too many mustard seeds.

My companion ordered a vegetarian lasagna, layered with seasonal vegetables and covered with béchamel sauce and melted cheese.

This will set you back only R55, which is not bad for the amount of lasagne covered with melted cheese, crisp peppers — which are not overcooked — and ample vegetables.

My partner’s feast was rounded off with a crème brûlée dessert.

The topping was sweet and crusty.

I had three scoops of ice cream covered with hot Bar One sauce, which complemented the ice cream well.

Overall, we were more than pleased with the quality of food and the portion sizes.
