Volunteer and help animals in need

The Namaqua Dog and Donkey Foundation (NDDF) is appealing for new volunteers to join its team.

The registered, non-profit organisation was founded in 2005.

Operating in disadvantaged communities, members improve the quality of the lives of the animals in these communities through sterilisation.

Their larger project is Barcelona Township, in Etwatwa (Daveyton), but they try to assist as many disadvantaged people within the Benoni area as they can — funds permitting.

Their main focus is sterilisation, as they feel this is where they can make the biggest impact in reducing unwanted litters of puppies and kittens, as well as potential neglect and suffering.

They also provide primary health care services, such as vaccinating, dipping and deworming, as well as medical care for their project community.

They work hard at educating the pet owners, as they say many people are not aware of the basic health care needs of their animals.

The committee and members are all volunteers.

They rely heavily on donations and sponsorships and hold several fund-raisers during the year.

If you have a passion for animals and feel you could play a part in the organisation, contact Reinette Smith on 076 714 5460, or Sharon Roe on 082 893 5087.
