
The objections closed on May 19, and the metro said the results could take anything between six and nine months.
Should residents still be unhappy with the decisions taken by the municipal valuer, they can, within 30 days of receiving notification, write to the valuer, requesting the reasons for the decision of the value.
“If objectors are not satisfied with the decision, they have the right to appeal to the valuation board within 30 days from the date the notice of objection outcome was sent.
“In a case where the objector requested the reasons for the decision, the appeal must be lodged within 21 days from the date on which the reasons were sent to the objector,” explained municipal spokesman Sam Modiba.
Modiba said the decision of the valuation appeal board is final.
He added: “Appeals lodged do not defer a person’s ability to pay rates.”
