Car thief jailed for 10 years

Shoepane Daniel Letsie (20) was sentenced to 10 years in prison, for a motor vehicle theft, on September 26.

Letsie stole a car which was parked in Ampthill Avenue, in July, while the owner was busy in the post office.

“Letsie did not know the vehicle was fitted with a tracking device,” said police spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele.

Quick response by the tracking company and the police led to his arrest, and further investigation by Det WO Thulani Madise led to him being sentenced and declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The police would like to send a strong message to criminals in the Benoni area, who are involved with vehicle-related thefts.

“We will not leave any stone unturned during our investigations and will bring you, the criminal, to justice,” he said.

The 20-year-old was sentenced by magistrate Mitzie Schutte, in the Benoni Regional Court.
