Cool down and feast at Grapes
There is no doubt that the temperature on October 10 was above average, and it is in times like that when unique restaurants and pubs like Grapes come in handy.
Its mixture of traditional pub and contemporary restaurant and the layout makes it more than a great place to eat and get a pint or three or more, depending on how much you can take.
I was seated in an outside area with wooden tables on a sunny and hot afternoon, enjoying a meal and the fresh air.
On that particular day I had a juicy medium done Grapes butterfly steak, topped with ham spinach and grilled cheddar cheese, while my friend ordered prime pork ribs served with rice.
“Mmmmmmmm,” was my exclamation when I tucked into the carefully prepared medium 200g steak. Some combinations can never go wrong.
As expected, it was simply seasoned and tender.
My friend went for the prime pork ribs, flame grilled with a succulent rib basting sauce.
I’m not a pork person, but I watched in admiration as she devoured the fine looking ribs, which displayed perfect grill marks.
She said that, in addition to being so delicious, they were meaty and flavourful, so tender and fatty.
And, the pub is stocked with all sorts of drinks.
Grapes is situated at the intersection of Victoria and Russell streets, in Western Extension, and offers a wonderful eating and relaxing experience.
It is one of Benoni’s oldest hangouts and has been providing hearty “pub grub” to enthusiasts for more than 18 years.
The interior is spacious and fit for family outings.
Grapes offers a delightful experience and the service was excellent, with waiter, Eddie Shirichena, taking us through the menu and being helpful in every way.
There is live music on Friday nights and Sundays, at lunchtime.
The venue can also be booked for functions.
People should visit Grapes for drinks, good food and service.
Overall, I recommend this eatery if you are in the neighbourhood, as it’s one place you will not regret eating or drinking at.
It is open from Monday to Saturday, 10am to midnight, and from 10am to 6pm on Sundays. MM
