New band invades the music scene

Them Bandits brings a brand new flavour to the rock 'n roll scene, with a Western-inspired “dirty rock” style set to make music lovers fall in love.

This Benoni-based band formed in 2012, consisting of Alex Botha on vocals, Tyrone Parsons on guitar, Wayne van Tonder on Drums and Kevin Hughes on Bass Guitar.

“We wanted to do something that South Africa has not seen before,” they said.

Them Bandits perform country-wide, having opened for bands like Fuzigish, Desmond and the Tutus, Jet Black Camero and One day remains amongst others.

Being professional musicians they pass their talents to others through their own music academy based in Benoni.

Their full-length debut album, “Black Town”, was released in August.

In a recent Music Scene SA Gig review, Roy Bouwer described the band’s style as “quite refreshing in the South African Industry”.

“The band has got the right look and the right amount of cockiness backup with talent to pull it off.”

When asked what differentiates them from other bands, they said that they have not fallen into the habits that musicians normally adopt.

“We take our music seriously and work hard,” said Hughes.

The band members admit to have “quite different” personalities, uniting their styles to create the music.

“If Them Bandits ever want to compare themselves to big, established bands, I will gladly back any comparison to world-class acts like Audioslave, Queen of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, the earlier, alternative rock-era Muse, and locally (but not least), Black Cat Bones and Jet Black Camaro,” said Floris Groenewald, in a review for the South Africa Music Scene (SAMS).

“Incredible album, haven’t stopped listening to it since I got it. The band is just as amazing live as their album; definitely taking SA music up to the international platform,” commented Lindsey Hedley on the review.

Writing their songs is a combined effort by all the members and these can be found on Sound Cloud, ITunes, Spotify, CD Baby and Last Fm.
