According to the principals of Benoni High School (Jake Ceronio), Hoërskool Hans Moore (Ertjies Hatting) and Hoërskool Brandwag (James Wright), they have notified their pupils to be careful and not to display their cellphones.
The group of men, driving a blue Nissan Qashqai, apparently victimise scholars shortly after stopping them and asking them for directions.
Two pupils from Hoërskool Hans Moore, and a pupil from Hoërskool Brandwag, allegedly fell victim to these men earlier this month and had their cellphones stolen.
Benoni SAPS media liaison officer Lieut Nomsa Sekele said these incidents have not been linked to the people in the Nissan, as no cases against these men have been opened at the Benoni SAPS.
According to Crystal Park SAPS media liaison officer Tryna Maritz, the occupants of this vehicle have been involved in nine incidents where people have been robbed, with only one being reported to the police.
The driver of the Nissan was arrested in Crystal Park in May, after two of the vehicles occupants allegedly robbed a woman at gunpoint, a few days before his arrest.
The man was acquitted as he could not be linked to the robbery, as he was only the driver of the vehicle, according to Maritz.
Sekele urged people who have fallen victim to these suspects to go to the police station and open a case.
She said once a case has been opened police will do their best to investigate the incidents.
