Ex-boyfriend nabbed for kidnapping, child still missing

The Daveyton police have arrested a 32-year-old man accused of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend's daughter.

The nine-year-old went missing from her school, in Daveyton, on November 7.

The girl was apparently lured into the car by the man, in the morning, outside the school gates.

“Her school mates said the man lured the young girl into his car by offering her a juice, and then drove away with her,” said police spokesman Capt Alfred Nakana.

Nakana said the description given by the child’s school mates fitted that of the mother’s ex-boyfriend and the car he drives.

He was arrested on November 11, following investigations.

A missing person’s case was opened last week.

Nakana said the man denied being behind the child’s disappearance.

He said the man and the child’s mother have been separated for a while now.

The man has been charged with kidnapping and will appear soon in the Benoni Magistrates Court.

Nakana urged those with any information that could lead to the child’s recovery to contact the investigating officer, WO Rodney Khoza, on 073 341 9767.
