Man kills wife, injures daughter, then shoots himself

A 60-year-old Wattville man shot and killed his wife (57) and injured his daughter (26), in Abie Nyalunga Street, in Wattville, in the early hours of November 24.

He later shot himself in front of the police.

Police were alerted by the man’s son, who was sleeping in an outside room.

“After hearing gun shots, the son rushed into the main house and found both his mother and sister lying in a pool of blood,” said police spokesman Capt Mack Mngomezulu.

Mngomezulu said the father fled the scene after the shooting, but returned home when his son phoned him.

“He then shot himself in the head when he noticed that the police were in his yard, waiting for him,” said Mngomezulu.

He died on the scene.

The woman was transported to a hospital in Alberton where she was confirmed dead on arrival, while the daughter was taken to a Benoni hospital, where she is still receiving treatment.

The Motive for the killing is unknown and the police are investigating.

Mngomezulu said the man used his licensed firearm.
