NDDF hosts final spay day
Non-profit organisation Namaqua Dog and Donkey Foundation (NDDF) held its final spay day for the year at Benoni West Junior School, on Sunday, December 1.
Five East Rand vets provided their services to the cause and a total of 27 dogs and five cats were spayed on the day.
The focus was on animals belonging to residents from Barcelona squatter camp, which were collected by the NDDF.
St Dunstan’s College also donated packs of food for the animals and their owners.
NDDF treasurer Sharon Roe explained that the organisation’s focus is on spaying animals, as statistics show that the births of around 68 000 animals are prevented by sterilising two sexually mature adult animals that breed twice a year, thus preventing the number of stray and neglected animals.
“Who knows of 64 000 homes?” she asked.
The NDDF hosts spay days once a month in the summer.
