Fundi training centre celebrates 30 years

The Fundi Training Centre celebrated its 30th anniversary on November 29.

The centre was established in 1983, by Seifsa, who saw the need for high quality apprentice training as the first industry-based training centre in the metal and engineering industry in South Africa.

The 30th anniversary celebrations were merged with this year’s annual awards ceremony, where students were rewarded for exceptional performance during the past year.

Mahlohonolo Maruma (23) and Steven Mahlangu (27), from Murray and Roberts, performed exceptionally well.

Maruma received three awards: the Aberdare Trophy for the boilermaker apprentice who has shown the most progress for the year, the Seifsa Trophy for overall best progress, and the Janet Lopes Trophy for the top female student.

“I am very grateful to Murray and Roberts for the opportunity they have given me, as well as to the Fundi Training Centre”, said Maruma.

Mhlanga received two awards: the Seifsa Award for the overall top student for 2013, as well as the Aberdare Trophy for top student in the boiler making trade.

“I am delighted and extremely proud of myself, but I cannot say I’m surprised. I have given my all to my trade and I believe that hard work will always be rewarded,” said Mhlanga.

Fundi congratulates all the students and wishes them well as they embark on the next level of their careers.
