Robbery at luxury estate

Police have opened a house robbery docket after seven men robbed a home on the luxury Dunblane Lifestyle Estates, in the early hours of this morning.

The Crystal Park SAPS, Gauteng Flying Squad, the SAPS Tactical Response Team and CPF members were this morning searching to see whether the men were still in the Bredell estate.

Dunblane home owners association director André van Zyl said, at 11.20am today, February 27, that there is still a police presence on the estate, but that none of the robbers have been found.

Van Zyl said there was no breach of the estate’s security and that all home owners will be contacted to determine if they are safe.

The robbers, were all believed to be armed.

A woman living in the house, who does not want to be named, said she was watching TV at 2 o’clock this morning, when three men, wearing balaclavas, entered her bedroom.

The men pulled her out of the bed and she awakened her husband, who was next to her.

“I woke him up and they pushed him to the ground and tied him up with shoe laces and cable ties,” she said.

The woman was then told to open the safe, at gun point.

The men retrieved two guns from the safe and threatened to shoot the woman’s husband.

“I begged them not to do it,” she said this morning, at the house.

“I told them I would show them where to go and what they wanted; but to just leave us alone.”

The woman said her four children, aged two, six, nine, and 10 were in the house at the time of the incident.

The suspects threatened to shoot the woman if her two-year-old daughter, who was in bed with her, moved.

The suspects locked the husband in the bathroom and her in the study.

The men were in the house from 2am to 4.30am.

The suspects apparently made food (peanut butter sandwiches) and drank before leaving the home.

Before leaving, they attempted to cut off the woman’s finger, in order for them to exit at the security gate booms, but she gave them the remote.

Cellphones, TV sets, laptops, clothing, jewellery, cash and a vehicle were taken.

The suspects failed to exit the complex in the getaway vehicle stolen from the house.

No one at the home was seriously injured.
