Pupils get uniform presents on Valentine’s Day
EnviroServ Waste Management Ltd gave school uniforms to primary and high schools learners from both Daveyton and Etwatwa, on Valentine’s Day,
The event, graced by dignitaries including EnviroServ CEO Des Gordon, ward councillors and the Department of Basic Education’s Paul Sehlabelo, was held at WJ Mpengesi Primary School, in Etwatwa.
EnviroServ PRO Makgabo van Niekerk said this was the second Chris Dlamini Dress a Learner Programme, and five learners in each school received a school uniform pack, consisting of shoes, socks, pants, a long-sleeved shirt and jersey, as well as a lunch pack consisting of a banana, apple, yogurt and a juice.
“We have worked very closely with both the Gauteng East and Ekurhuleni North districts and the community to make this a reality,” said van Niekerk.
She said that, in 2013, the company worked with the Gauteng East District to identify 75 needy learners in 16 schools (eight primary and eight high schools) in Etwatwa, for whom it bought school uniforms.
The Quality Learning and Teaching Campaign (QLTC), the district and community leaders, including ward councillors, were part of the initiative on October 4, 2013, at the W. J Mpengesi Primary School.
Van Niekerk said the company has decided to partner with a number of stakeholders in areas in which it operates, in response to the government‘s call to corporate South Africa to assist it in initiatives and programmes that will accelerate nation-building and development.
