Water leak struggle in Agricultural Holdings to be investigated
A resident of Patten Road, in the Benoni North Agricultural Holdings, said has she reported water leaks in her road to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality several times in the past year.

According to the resident, the metro came out to repair it, but it was still leaking severely.
“This leak appeared when a new water meter was installed,” she said.
“Since then I have reported it to the metro, but it was still not fixed.”
Further up the road, (approximately 60m), she said, is another leak.
The woman explained that it has formed huge puddles in the road, and which are turning into potholes.
Ekurhuleni spokesperson Lebogang Ramashala said they traced all the water meter-related work done at this stand from last year, to date, and provided a summary thereof:
- March 1, 2013: Old water meter was replaced with new above ground meter and moved closer to the stand boundary.
- March 19, 2013: QA inspection was passed and no leak was found at meter.
- April 22, 2013: Follow-up compliant received, after investigation MIC report ground water.
- July 29, 2013: Follow-up leak complaint, MIC excavated and found no leak at meter; there was water coming up in the middle of the road, nothing to do with the water meter;
- November 19, 2013: QA inspection passed, no leak at meter.
“There is no water meter leak at this address,” said Ramashala.
“However, there is water running down the street (across the road from the resident’s address), but this is also not from the water meter,” she added.
Ramashala said the water meter inspector visited the water meter again on Friday morning (March 28) and, again, no meter leak was reported.
She said, however, that this area’s water tables seem to be high, and there is no storm water drainage in place.
She added that it might be that the water the consumer is complaining about is ground water, which is worse now, after all the rain.
Ramashala said: “The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s Water Services operations team, together with the water quality team, will go out and test the water to confirm if it is ground water or main line water seeping up.
“The necessary action will follow those investigations.”
