Something for everyone at HobbiTech

Model trains, wire art, wooden garden décor, crystal lamps, wooden folk art, and plenty of food and drink, were just some of the items on offer at the 10th annual HobbiTech event.

The two-day event, organised by the Rotary Club of Benoni Van Ryn, was held at the John Barrable Hall, in Rynfield, on April 5 and 6.

There were also stalls manned by organisations such as Hospice East Rand, a diabetes awareness table (manned by members of the Benoni van Rhyn Lions Club and Benoryn Lioness Club), the South Africa National Blood Service (Sanbs), and many more.

In addition, the military and the EMPD K9 Unit had displays.

A total of 79 exhibitors displayed their items this year.

Rotary Club of Benoni Van Ryn president Nick Cole-Niven said the number of exhibitors fell far short of the previous year’s 120 exhibitors.

He attributed this to the tough economic climate, as well as the loss of last year’s main sponsor.

Despite this, Cole-Niven said on Saturday afternoon, that there was a steady flow of customers at HobbiTech.

He thanked all those involved in making the event happen, including Ekurhuleni, for making the hall available.

HobbiTech is the Rotary Club of Benoni Van Ryn’s biggest fundraiser of the year.

All the proceeds will go towards the club’s projects.
