Startime Players turn on the heat

Turn Back Time, a Startime Players' musical revue, sizzled the audience during their performance at the All Souls Church, on May 24.

Directed by Vivian McDonald, with Alice Davies responsible for musical direction and Nicol Smithard for choreography, the Startime Players’ ensemble opened the show with “If I could turn back time”, followed by “Here’s to never growing up” and “Forever Young”.

The men of the cast later took to the stage alone, to deliver “That’ll be the day”, dishing out impressive moves in the process.

The women of the cast were not about to be outdone and they followed with “I will survive”, with their performance displaying some of their best choreography.

The explosive choreography and high energy of this cast was evidenced throughout the show, even when they delivered “Thriller”, which left me thinking I was watching a horror movie.

Cast members walked like zombies throughout the song, and the “evil laugh” by Stephen van den Barg, at the end of the song, had me thinking that there were real zombies in the hall.

The audience also got to sing along and dance when the cast delivered seasoned hits like “YCMA” and “Bohemian Rhapsody”.

All in all, the cast took us on a nostalgic musical adventure through decades past, with some of the best beloved songs of all times.

The cast members have proven to be talented singers, dancers and actors in the own rights, with bright futures ahead of them.

If you missed their latest offering this past weekend, be sure to catch them this coming weekend.

The next shows are scheduled for May 30 and 31, at 3.30pm, in the All Souls Church Hall, at 42 O’Reilly Merry Street, in Northmead.
