By-election to be held in Benoni ward

A registration weekend for a municipal by-election in ward 24 will take place on May 31 and June 1.

People must live in ward 24 and have registered in the ward to vote in the election, which will take place on July 2.

Registration stations will be open from 8am till 5pm, and 7am till 9pm, on election day.

The following venues will be open for registration and voting:

  •  Chief Albert Luthuli Primary School
  •  Chief Albert Luthuli High School
  •  Kathstan College
  •  Benoni Council for the Aged
  •  Crystal Park Primary School
  •  The Music Academy of Gauteng
  •  Crystal Park Health Clinic

Ward 24 is compromised of the following areas: Jatniel; Rynfield Agricultural Holdings; Rynfield; Fairleads; Crystal Park; Norton’s Home Estates; Benoni North Agricultural Holdings; Van Ryn Small Holdings; Chief Albert Luthuli Park, Vlakfontein; Slatterville, Benoni Small Farms, Cloverdene and Boat Lake Village.

The election will be held as the incumbent councillor, Clr Refiloe Nt’sekhe, was appointed to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.

The IEC said the list of candidates contesting the municipal election is not yet available.
