More bodies found: Illegal miners shot execution style
Police discovered three more bullet-riddled bodies of illegal miners on June 22.
This brings to eight the total number of bodies discovered in just two days, after five bodies bearing bullet wounds were discovered on Saturday.
The illegal miners are believed to have killed by a rival gang.
The sixth body was discovered near disused mine shaft in New Modder on Sunday.
“There was a huge bullet wound in the upper body,” said police spokesman Capt Mack Mngomezulu.
Another two bodies were discovered inside the shaft following a tip off by an illegal miner.
Ekurhuleni Emergency Services worked around the clock to retrieve the bodies of the two miners who were shot and killed underground.
The last body was brought to the ground at around 5pm.
Mngomezulu said all bodies had gunshot wounds and were all shot execution style.
Mngomezulu said the killings are related to illegal mining.
The bodies were noticed by quad bikers early in the morning, who informed the mine security.
One of the deceased men was found with his hands tied behind his back.
