Stolen cars recovered at a local ‘chop shop’
A vehicle tracking signal led the EMPD and Flying Squad members to a vehicle chop shop, on June 20.
EMPD spokesman Wilfred Kgasago explained that three vehicles found at a house, at the intersection of Snake and Main Reef roads, were identified as stolen.
“Three men were arrested as a result,” he said.
He added that one of the men was found with a firearm, for which he could not produce a licence, as well as with cash amounting to R13 000.
“Over and above the stolen BMW, with a Sophiatown Police Station case number, Metro Police officers found a Mazda sedan and a Toyota Tazz, which were also confirmed to have been stolen,” said Kgasago.
The trio, in their early 40s, were arrested and charged with being in possession of stolen vehicles.
An additional charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm was filed against one of the suspects.
The three men are expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court, soon.
