Couple celebrates 60 years of love

Love conquers all

“Commitment and the grace of God has kept us going strong all these years,” said George Weeks, when asked how he maintained a long and happy marriage.

“There is no secret to a lasting marriage, except we don’t keep secrets, love each other dearly and share everything except soccer,” said his wife, Gisela.

Gisela (88) and George (83) celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 7.

The Rynfield couple met in 1951, on holiday in Margate, KwaZulu-Natal.

Three years later, in 1954, they were married on June 7.

They were blessed with two sons, Brian and Michael.

Brian, the eldest, lives in Dallas, USA, and is a plumber by profession; he is married and has two daughters.

Michael is an events organiser, and is married with two sons.Gisela and George both love gardening and travelling.

In March, they took a vacation to the Kruger National Park, where George practiced his love for photography, while Gisela enjoyed quality time reading.

Gisela said that “a good understanding of one another is crucial to a successful marriage”.

She added that respect, along with being supportive of one another and working together, keeps the fire burning.

The Weeks celebrated their anniversary at the Lutheran Church, in Kempton Park, on June 7, the exact day they were married.
