Annual Winter Art Exhibition opens soon

Artists welcome to exhibit they paintings.

Lakeside Mall’s Town Square will be hosting their seventh annual Winter Art Exhibition from July 8 to 13.

The Artists’ Association was formed in 2007, to provide opportunities for local artists to exhibit and sell their work.

Initially members came from the Benoni area, but membership has grown from 10 to over 40 artists — most from the East Rand — who exhibit from time to time.

The members include well-known local artists Paul Botes and Jacqueline Bekker.

The exhibitions usually feature 70 to 80 paintings by different artists, with a fairly wide range of subject matter and styles.

All work is viewed by a selection panel, in order to maintain an acceptable standard.

The association is running a competition, for viewers to chose their favourite painting.

The winner will be chosen at random from those who voted for the most liked painting and will win a R500 voucher.

This year they have added a colouring-in competition for children aged 12 and under.

Entry for both competitions is free.

The exhibition will run from 10am to 7pm on Friday, and from 9am to 7pm on Saturday.

Any artist who wishes to exhibit his/her work is welcome to join the association.

There is a joining fee and a yearly membership fee, which are used to build and maintain things like exhibition stands and lighting. There is a small hanging fee and commission for exhibitions, which goes towards posters, transport and security.
