Rotary Aurora inducts new president

The Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora's 23rd annual black-tie dinner, to induct their president for the upcoming year, again boasted prestigious recognition and elegance.

Denis Brandjes took over the reins from outgoing president Sylvia Knoop, for the 2014/2015 Rotary year.

Ronel Davidson was inducted as his Ann by one of the outgoing quarter president Anns, Rosie van Olst.

This year the Benoni Aurora Rotaract Club’s induction was held at the same function.

Outgoing president Ric Maggioli inducted Robyn Begemann as the new Rotaract president for the upcoming year.

On accepting his presidency, Brandjes said it is an honour to hold this title.

His cause for the year is to uplift the local community, with the emphasis on empowerment.

He encouraged members of the club to dig deeper within their own lives to make a meaningful impact.

“I would love for this year to end with more than facts and figures, to end with stories of impact,” he said.

Begemann said although the Rotaract club is small, she aims to change that this year.

The event, which was decorated tastefully by Heidi Tucker and Les Silber, matched this year’s football theme.

Silber acted as mistress of ceremonies and had members and their guests in stitches with her entertainment line-up.

A deserving Brandjes was also awarded the title of Rotarian of the Year for his exceptional service to the club.

Other awards presented on this evening included 10 Service Awards.

The recipients of the 10 Service Awards made at the function were Denis Brandjes, Lin Case, Neil Carlson, Lesley Silber, Heather Smithard, Heidi Tucker, Grace van Zyl, Butch and Claire Wilson and Rex van Olst.

Roger Gilder, Neil Carlson and Walter Licata, who will be retiring from the club, were made honorary members.

Roger Gilder, Rex van Olst, Lin Case, Kevin Norris, Grace van Zyl, Gail Wilson, Butch Wilson, Denis Brandjes and Sylvia Knoop chalked up 100 per cent attendance in the past Rotary year.
