Social Media Day

As the world moved into the 21st century, another giant called social media was born.

Many of us never anticipated that our lives would almost be dependent on it.

Today, we have grown to rely on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and other social networks for instant information.

Some of us are already addicts to these platforms and a day without them is even hard to imagine.

Social media went from being the catalyst for connecting people to being the catalyst that connect the entire world.

Social media has become an important source of news.

Additionally, news quickly gets passed around the networks in ways never experienced before.

Social media has also furthered interaction on such a massive scale that is hard not to notice it.

These media platforms have also forced many businesses to review how they do business.

For example, the whole dynamics of marketing have been changed, and rather than investing in mass channels advertising, companies are becoming more consumer-centered through interactions made over social media.

They are able to understand the needs of the market from the market itself, greatly altering the way marketing has been done in the past.

Today the world celebrates these platforms.

Five years, Mashable, a leading source for news, information and resources for the Connected Generation, launched Social Media Day.

Social Media Day is an international day of celebration where these amazing networks are honoured in the way they have changed the world and also the people who power the platforms.

On June 30, thousands of people around the world, from Australia to the Philippines, and the United States to Brazil, are expected to come together to participate in this global movement.

People can get involved in this year’s Social Media Day by joining the Social Media Day conversations using the hashtag #smday.
