14 drivers arrested in joint law enforcement operation
EMPD, SAPS and Gauteng traffic police conducted a joint operation in and around Daveyton on Friday, July 4.

According to Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson, the efforts were prompted by unacceptable driver behaviour statistics, and a number of complaints received from the community with regard to tuck shop owners selling expired food.
The operation started at 2pm and ended at 10.30pm.
“Fourteen drivers suspected of drinking and driving were arrested, and several expired food items were seized from tuck-shop owners by officials,” said Kgasago.
Heald Road, between Kingsway and Mathewson streets, which, according to officials, is notorious for horrific accidents and unlawful driver behaviour, was chosen with an objective of arresting law-breakers.
“The roadblock started at 5.30pm and ended at 9.30pm, with 14 drinking and driving suspects and 44 citations issued for various offences,” said Kgasago.
Various tuckshops suspected of selling expired food were raided.
“Thirty-two types of foodstuff, totalling 147 items, were seized,” said Kgasago.
The operations are expected to continue in conjunction the department of health, to ensure compliance by tuck-shop owners.
All 14 drivers arrested had charges of suspected drunken driving registered against them, at the Daveyton Police Station.
They are expected to appear in the Daveyton Magistrate Court soon.
