Crystal Park shines on our TV screens.
Siphosenkosi Malimela (24) from Crystal Park has made it on television.
The enterprise risk consultant and business continuity employee of Transnet Freight Rail, made it to the top six of the One Day Leader show, on SABC1.
This show seeks to promote and groom future leaders of the country by taking six brilliant young people from across the country, subjecting them to some challenges and debating possible solutions in front of a panel of judges, in an attempt to find the One Day Leader.
Malimela applied online and made the initial cut for the top 90, then had to write a profile about himself and his achievements.
He also had to submit suggestions on how he could resolve some of the country’s issues.
The 90 entrants were cut to 45, who took part in radio debates on socio-economic topics, and from there the top 20 were selected to go into the studio for live debates.
The top six were then selected.
Being on One Day Leader has challenged Malimela as an individual and broadened his perspective.
“It has afforded me an opportunity to represent not just my family, but also my home town and province,” he said.
It’s humbling to know that your opinions are valued and that young and old are being inspired by your contribution to the country.”
Malimela is a former athlete, an upcoming book worm, a singer and a preacher, and enjoys playing soccer on weekends.
He is inspired by the Bible and his biggest achievement was making the top six of One Day Leader.
“The goals I have set for myself are, firstly, to win the show, then to complete my honours in investments, strive to get a CFA qualification and become a business strategy consultant and one of the best speakers in the world,” said Malimela.
“I’m a very spiritual young man, who still believes in morals and values; I believe if you can kneel before God you can stand before kings.
“I believe in the investment of our youth and their development; there is a lot of undiscovered potential out there, and all they need is a platform and someone to believe in them.
“Winning will be only the beginning of bigger things to come; it will give me a platform to be a tool that helps to unearth the hidden potential that lies in the citizens of this beautiful country, so that we can become thinkers and not mere reflectors of the rest of the world’s thoughts, that we start pioneering the future we desire for ourselves.”
The show airs at 4.30pm every Monday, on SABC 1.
