Angry protesters burn tyres, block Daveyton roads

Protesters in Daveyton have blocked roads within the area demanding municipal officials to address their concerns.

According EMPD spokesperson Sup Wilfred Kgasago, protesters have blocked roads with bricks, branches and burning tyres.

“The whole situation started yesterday when people tried to illegally invade land and law enforcement took action and prevented them from doing so,” said Kgasago.

Capt Alfred Nakana, Daveyton SAPS spokesperson, said police are attempting to stop the protesters but they continue to move to different streets and continue to burn tyres.

At the moment the blocked streets include Gumede, Eiselen, Lorie, Turton , Heald and Mocke streets.

The protests were sparked by the illegal invasion of land in Rem Daveyton 73-IR, Ptn 266 Putfontein 26-IR and Erf 4547.
