Youthful fun at Rotary Aurora Youth Alive evening
The Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora recently hosted an evening to celebrate the youth organisations within Rotary.
Over 110 Rotakids, Interactors, Rotaractors, Youth Exchange, Rotarians, partners and friends shared in this great experience.
The vibrant evening allowed the various clubs and students to engage with each other and share ideas.
The youngest members of the Rotary family are Rotakids, who are between the ages of 12 and 18.
Benoni Aurora has Rotakid clubs at St Dunstan’s College and Rynfield Primary School.
It was the club’s pleasure to welcome representatives from their various Interact Clubs at Ashbury School, Benoni High School and St Francis College.
There were also representatives from Youth Exchange and Rotaract.
The Rotaract members are a a group of passionate young people, with ages ranging between 18 and 30, working together to improve the lives of people in our community.
There was a brief talk by Emily Mabasa, a participant in the President’s Award competition.
Despite being a physically challenged young woman, her enthusiasm, determination and strength of character won her the bronze, silver and finally gold President’s Award.
She motivated the audience to overcome their challenges and persevere, no matter how tough they think things are.
The keynote speakers for the evening were Niall Higgins and Denga Mangena, who recently travelled the world. They shared their positive ideas about change in South Africa with their talk: “I Can – You Can – We Can”.
The two of them won the Sandton Rotary Club public speaking competition.
The clubs succeeded in collaborating and sharing ways in which they can bring about change.
